Mushrooms!
Bret and Heidi took us out mushroom hunting on Saturday. We drove all the way up to Salt Point State Park. Getting there was not easy. Those windy roads and my poor driving skills caused one of our number to lose their breakfast. I will only add that it was done with level of grace and style that I have not seen even in the USCA.
The trip was well worth the effort however since Salt Point is literally infested with all manners of mushrooms. Not only did we find plenty of boletes (similar to porcini) but we also found a secret grove of Scaly Vase Chanterelle. Those were the only ones we ate but we found others of questionable safety which we did not eat. I found an impressive coral-looking mushroom that we can't quite identify.
Also, we found the guy pictured to the left. What you probably can't tell from the picture is that it is as big as my head. Also, not good to eat. Even if you are a hippy. Also, I'm told that it's illegal to possess if you know what it is. So don't tell me, folks!
On the long ride back we stopped at the beautiful Timber Cove Inn. Let that website be a lesson to you, kids: Don't save your photos as gifs. That's not what they're for. As a contrast, here is a picture from the Timber Cove property that is saved in the right format:
