Back from San Diego

Lisa and I are back from San Diego. It was fun but it is nice to be back in our own home again. The day before we left I went snorkeling in La Jolla Cove which is really quite something. I saw a lot of fish and the water was only really really cold and not all-the-way freezing. The most common fish was the Garibaldi. It looks like a giant goldfish with a bulgey forehead.

This makes me want to do some more snorkeling.

Also, we listened to Stephen Colbert's book on tape (iPod actually) on the way up. Very good stuff.

Family: Online. also, Snakes

It's been a long time since my family shuffled aside its electric typewriter to purchase a 75Mhz 386. But for a long time I was the only one with a large web presence. Well, I think it's time I officially declare my family web-savvy. My mom has a Skype account and uses it to talk with relatives in Italy all the time, and my sister has a blog. Check it out, y'all.

Lisa and I have been having a great time here in San Diego. Mostly this has involved hiking. Earlier this week we spent a couple days hanging out in Julian which is a nice little mountain town with plenty of apples and miles of hiking trail. We saw three kinds of woodpeckers, an owl, three families of turkeys, and an osprey eating a live fish. Also, a jack-rabbit.

We also drove over the mountain and into the Anza-Borrego desert. Must say: the desert has lots of cacti. Quite a lot. Also, it was very hot. We drove over around 7 and it was still 90 degrees when we were driving back in the dark.

Today we went for a little hike near my mom's house. We saw a rattlesnake, a king snake, and some real weird lizard with a super-orange head that apparently no one's ever heard of before (at least that's what it looks like from my googling). Why do you all have to look so weird, animals?

In San Diego

I've been hanging out here in San Diego for the past week. Lisa has been putting up with my loud family very nicely and we've been trying to occupy our time with various things. We're seen Hellboy, Hellboy II, Batman, and Mamma Mia. In order they are good, better, awesome, and just ok.

Here's a totaly random thought on films. I've been thinking that what I really want to see is a comedy set in ancient times. Not ancient Greece or China - I'm thinking like pre-columbian America. And let's give the Maya and the Aztecs a rest. For once I want to see a comedy set in Hopi village in 1230. Yeah, it might not be easy to put something like that together but it'd surely cost less than Get Smart.

Ok. This is a stab in the right direction. Well, at least it's not something I've never seen before.

You might think that it'd be hard to pull off a comedy set in a culture that's so different but really I doubt it'd be as hard as all that. America was then as it is now a very diverse place and a writer could probably take advantage of that to just make up a culture (and side-step the possibility of offending anyone).

I'm just thinking out loud here.

Do you have my Win XP CD?

I can't find it and I think maybe I lent it to someone.

Hi, I'm a mac.

So, I ordered a Macbook and got a free iPod touch (after rebate) thrown in for my trouble. The Macbook hasn't arrived yet but the iPod has so mostly I've been focusing on that. Apparently the new 2.0 operating system for the iPod touch is coming out Friday so I'm looking forward to that even though it'll apparently cost $10 to upgrade.

I've already added bookmarks for the mobile page on wordreference.com but it kind of sucks and I was wondering if there are any search engine plug-ins or translators. Anyone have any suggestions for moding my iPod? Zack, I'm looking in your direction.
