New year's resolution
I tend to have outsized control over the conversation. I think this is mostly because I have a deep voice and a very short pause length which means I'm usually the first to start talking when there is a lull (Lisa's linguist mind attributes this to my Italian upbringing). Swaying the conversation to topics that interest me wouldn't be a problem if I were a more well-rounded individual but the truth is conversations with me will almost always drift toward one of the following topics:
- Italy
- Politics
- Computers & Programming
- Science & Genetics
With a desire to not bore my friends, and to listen more closely to them I've made a new years resolution to not try to actively sway the conversation to Politics and Italy so often. This is a little quixotic, I know: one can't participate in a conversation without effecting the topic. Still, I think it might be useful so I'm going to give it a try.
To increase my self-consciousness I invite anyone who thinks I missed a few well-worn topics in my above list to suggest additions in the comment section.
